Almada, Portugal
Garcia de Orta Hospital
The Hospital Garcia de Orta (HGO) began operating in September 1991, replacing the former Hospital da Misericórdia de Almada/Hospital Distrital de Almada, which was no longer able to meet the needs of the growing population of the Setúbal peninsula and only offered basic hospital care.
In 2003, due to its development and the level of specialisation achieved, it was classified as a Central Hospital, becoming the only one on the southern bank of the Tagus. In the same year, it ceased to form part of the Administrative Public Sector and became part of the Public Business Sector, first as a public limited company (PLC) and, from 2006, as a public business entity (PBE), a status it has maintained to date.
The hospital has a capacity of approximately 590 beds, distributed among various specialities and referral services, such as Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Vascular Surgery, Cardiology, Haematology, Endocrinology, Nuclear Medicine, Rheumatology, Orthopaedics, Neuroradiology, Nephrology, among others, which also provide support to other hospitals. Currently, the HGO has more than 2,900 employees.
The hospital counted on Manusa Portugal to install different solutions in automatic doors to give access to several areas of the hospital.
They installed automatic bi-parting doors, single-slide opening and bi-parting automatic telescopic doors, with transparent and opaque leaves. This personalisation of the leaves helps to preserve the privacy of patients and relatives when they are treated at the hospital. Automatic doors allow easy and controlled access between different areas, and their automation facilitates transit without the need for manual intervention.
