Integration Manusa doors in Champalimaud Foundation
The Champalimaud Foundation is a private foundation created in 2004, whose mission is to develop advanced biomedical research programmes and provide excellent clinical care, with a focus on translating pioneering scientific discoveries into solutions that can improve the quality of life of people around the world.
On the foundation's premises we can find the Champalimaud Clinical Centre (CCC), a state-of-the-art medical, scientific and technological institution. The centre provides interdisciplinary clinical care together with applied research activities and advanced medical and technical training programmes. There is also the ‘Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre’, the world's first institution dedicated to pancreatic cancer research and treatment.
As it is such a complex space with so many different areas, all of them with their own particularities and specific needs, the Foundation features a wide variety of Manusa automatic doors.
Standard automatic sliding doors in the lift access area in the car park as well as at the ambulance entrance. These allow easy and controlled access for both people and vehicles, in this case ambulances, without sacrificing safety.
Fire-resistant automatic doors were installed in the laboratories, which not only compartmentalise areas but also, thanks to their design, provide an insulating structure to support the impact of fire from one side and prevent heat transfer to the other side. Its main purpose is to maintain its integrity and performance for a given time, to enable the evacuation and rescue process during a fire.
Both the access to the ICU and the rooms were fitted with automatic glass hermetic doors, both leaded and unleaded, some of them with electro-polarised glass. This glass allows the patient's privacy to be maintained when desired, while allowing the patient to be viewed without the need to open the door.
