Manusa Solutions for the Joan XXIII Hospital Smart ICU

Sanitary

The new ICU at the Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona stands out for its state-of-the-art medical devices for the treatment and monitoring of patients. Modern, ergonomic design has been implemented in all areas to prioritise the comfort of both patients and their families. In addition, we have sought to foster a close relationship between healthcare professionals and patients, while maintaining the privacy of the latter. This is a highly technological area, where patient safety and workflow are controlled by digital technology, integrating sensors connected to warning systems, and nursing and medical control systems.

Manusa, a company specialised in the manufacture and design of automatic doors, has done its bit in this outstanding project, installing access doors to the different ICU rooms, as well as doors to separate access to other areas.

Airlock system and ventilation systems with variable pressures and high air renewal flow rates have also been incorporated; this represents a significant infrastructure improvement.

Manusa's automatic hermetic sliding doors ensure a constant pressure difference of 5Pa between the inside and outside of each room. The airlock system, with double synchronised access doors and central depression, ensures the pressure exchange between the clean ICU area and the rest of the hospital, thus keeping the spaces free of pathogens under SPF regulations.

Each individualised room has a private workspace, allowing medical staff to have a direct view of the patients under their care. This is made possible by the installation of automatic doors with polarised film, which offer direct visibility and speed up care. Privacy is maintained by activating the polarised crystals in the access windows when necessary. In addition, the central work area is illuminated by natural light, thanks to the transparent polarised screens that allow outside light to pass through.

The aim is to create an environment that, while ensuring patient control and safety, offers home-like comfort, reducing the stress caused by isolation and constant surveillance. Automatic doors and polarised windows, which adjust transparency and privacy, contribute to this.
