Refurbishment of Seoul St Mary's Hospital

Sanitary

Founded in 1980, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital was the first hospital in the Gangnam district, south of Seoul. This hospital has been a benchmark for medical care in the region and in 2009, after a major renovation process, it changed its name and a new building was constructed with a total surface area of 190,000 square metres. The modern complex has 22 upper floors and six underground floors, making it one of the largest medical facilities in South Korea. With more than 1,300 beds, 48 clinical departments and a staff of 800 highly trained doctors, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital has established itself as a state-of-the-art healthcare institution.

One of the most innovative aspects of this renovation was the installation of automatic doors in different areas of the hospital. For the main entrance, framed automatic doors designed for both everyday access and emergency situations were chosen. These doors function as a standard entrance, but thanks to their panic-breakout system, they can also be used as an escape route in the event of an urgent evacuation. This type of access is ideal for high traffic areas such as hospitals, as it facilitates a quick and safe exit for people in critical situations.

Automatic doors were installed inside the site to section off and separate different areas. Two types of doors were chosen: semi-transparent bi-parting doors and framed telescopic bi-parting doors. The former offers greater visibility and facilitate the transit of staff and patients, while the telescopic ones are perfect for narrow corridors where a wide space is needed for the passage of stretchers or medical equipment.

In addition, Manusa automatic doors were installed at the entrance of the car park, specifically in the access areas to the lifts and payment machines, providing total visibility.
