Automatic doors for escape routes and emergency exits
Safety in the event of an emergency is of paramount importance in any building or premises. In order to ensure the safety of people working in or visiting the building, an evacuation plan is essential, which sets out the requirements to be followed and the emergency exits to be implemented. In this respect, automatic doors play a key role in the quick and safe evacuation of buildings.
The Basic SUA Document (Safety in use and accessibility) establishes the rules and procedures to meet the basic requirements of safety in use and accessibility. As far as automatic pedestrian doors are concerned, there are two basic points:
- In relation to the safety conditions of use, the doors shall have a CE marking in accordance with the UNE-EN 16005:2013 Standard "Automatic pedestrian doors. Safety in use. Requirements and test methods."
- Regarding their installation, use and maintenance, automatic doors must be subject to the conditions established in the UNE 85121 standard.
All Manusa automatic doors comply with the regulations specified in the Basic SUA Document. Depending on the size of the building and the number of people it can house the size of the evacuation passage for the door or doors to be installed as emergency exit will be different.
As a general rule, Manusa automatic doors already work as an emergency exit door. When there is an emergency or a power failure, the door opens and remains open so that people can get out and evacuate the building. This is thanks to the emergency battery that is installed in the door. It is common for the automatic door to be connected to the fire alarm, and when this is activated, the door also opens automatically and remains open for safety throughout the evacuation process.
When the evacuation passage must be larger than the existing free passage, the panic mechanism must be incorporated in the doors. This allows the door leaves to fold sideways, maximizing the passage area and ensuring that an escape route with an automatic door complies with the regulations in the event of an emergency.
