Nueva Aurora Luz Elena Arismendy Gynaecology-Obstetrics Hospital
The project that started in 2010 between the Municipality of the Metropolitan District of Quito and the Ministry of Public Health aimed to plan and build a mother and child hospital in the south of Quito. This effort was a response to the rapid population expansion seen in the last decade and the lack of hospitals offering specialised and sub-specialised gynaecology and obstetrics services in the area.
The Nueva Aurora Luz Elena Arismendy Gynaecology-Obstetrics Hospital has 172 beds and offers a wide range of services, including hospitalisation, intensive care units (ICU) for mothers and newborns, outpatient gynaecology and obstetrics, and imaging services such as X-rays, mammography, densitometry and ultrasound. It also has a laboratory, pathological anatomy, a surgical centre, an obstetric centre, transfusion medicine and an emergency area.
One of the most notable improvements to the hospital's infrastructure is the installation of stainless steel automatic hermetic doors in the operating theatres. These doors, fitted with a vision panel and tubular handle, are crucial for maintaining a sterile and safe environment during surgical procedures. Its design prevents the entry of contaminating particles, bacteria and viruses, which significantly reduces the risk of nosocomial infections. In addition, they maintain the positive pressure of clean air inside the operating theatre, expelling contaminated air and ensuring a controlled environment in terms of temperature and humidity, essential factors for the patient's well-being during surgery.
In short, this project not only expands the supply of hospital care in the south of Quito, but also ensures high quality standards in medical care, thus improving patient safety.
